2022 Recap
In 2022 we’ve had a great year for travel with continuously easing travel restrictions, new idillic destinations, and great places to wine and dine whether you’re abroad or down the street. 2023 Trends
Two of the main travel trends for 2023 include ‘Purposeful’ travel, and a return to the golden age of traveling where the journey was just as big of the trip as the destination. Purposeful travel refers to a sense of responsibility in our traveling and in the wellbeing of the destination. Concerns about travel’s impact on local wildlife, local people and the local environment are at its core. Purposeful travel is also not necessarily about shorter trips, but instead about focusing on quality and immersion, education and self-learning, alongside the usual vacation pleasures. Thanda Island and the Maldives are only two among many destinations that are working hard to promote sustainability, quality stays, and environmental responsibility despite uncompromising luxury and amenities.
Concerning the golden age of travel, this trend refers to a time when travel were inherently glamorous – when the journey itself was a joy rather than a ‘job’ to get over with. This ‘golden age’ was a time when you could savor the art of getting somewhere, as well as the destination itself, whether it was by steamer train or rail. Steam ships, river cruises, transatlantic naval excursions, train voyages, and even airship travel are expected to make a return as modes of transportation, giving a level of opulence only found during the turn of the century and the roaring 20s. One of the most popular tours is provided by Rail Discoveries, where guests can experience the wonders of Vienna, Prague, Berlin on a specially curated ten-day tour, for example, as rail tourism sees a 30 percent popularity increase.
